Oborevwori, Ogba, Ohwojero listed in LOC for 9th National Youth Games

Host, Delta State, has constituted an eight-man Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the 2025 National Youth Games (NYG).

After hosting two consecutives editions of the National Youth Games in 2023 and 2024, the city of Asaba is wearing a new look ahead the 2025 Games, which will run from August 26 to September 6.

A statement signed by Franca Okonma made available to The Guardian on Thursday night listed Onoriode J. Oborevwori as chairman of the eight-member LOC. The list has Chief Solomon Ogba as Adviser, with Sam Sodje Okeremute, Oghale Ofremu and Henrietta Ehiabor as members.

Other members are Festus Ohwojero, Paul Omamomo Ojo, while Emuuobo Egalase is secretary of the LOC.

The Guardian learnt on Friday that various sub committees have been constituted for the Games, which will see young athletes from across Nigeria converging for a week of thrilling competition. A Joint Technical Meeting, where some important issues concerning the Games were taken, held last week in Asaba.

Chairman of Delta State Sports Commission, Oborevwori, told The Guardian, after the JTM that preparations were in full gears to make this year’s Games a memorable one for athletes, officials and visitors.

This year’s event is theme ‘We Are the Future,’ and according to Oborevwori, the Games will be a celebration of youthful talent, unity, and the unyielding Nigerian spirit.

The opening ceremony will hold on August 28, while competitions will run till September 6 at multiple venues across Asaba.

Since the commencement of the National Youth Games in 2015, Team Delta has maintained its top position on the medals table.
