Team Lagos, yesterday, won a gold medal through Olatunde Oduwole in the Scrabble Masters singles event at the ongoing 21st National Sports Festival. The venue was the Multipurpose Hall of the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba.

Lagos State Scrabble and Monopoly Association coach, Akinfemisoye Ayomiposi, termed Oduwole’s gold medal as ‘most prestigious’ in the games, adding that he knew that his player will be a star to watch out for at the festival.

Oduwole was confident of winning a gold medal at the festival, having placed fourth position in Benin. He said: “The aura was not there for me at the Edo 2020, but with renewed vigour and determination, I was hopeful that Delta 2021 would be a different ball game,” the champion told reporters amid cheers.

He said scrabble demands every player to take his game seriously from preparation level “and this was what I did, vowing that I would not let Lagos down this time around,” he said.

Oduwole, a member of the Nigerian team to international championships, revealed that Team Lagos should be expecting more medals, as the scrabble event progresses in the festival.

“I will be competing in the doubles event with Wale Fashina, so also in the team event. I hope to win gold medals in these events,” Oduwole said.

Coach Ayomiposi said his scrabble team, comprising nine males and three female players, would compete in 12 events at the Delta 2021 National Sports Festival.
