The South West Chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has appointed Charles Ogundiya, a seasoned journalist from the Lagos State chapter, as its new Zonal Secretary. The announcement was made following a virtual NEC meeting, where two other zonal officers were also named.

Ogundiya, who writes for New Telegraph, is a prominent figure in Nigerian sports journalism, with over 15 years of experience covering major competitions such as the FIFA World Cup, Olympic Games, AFCON, Commonwealth Games, and various athletics championships. His extensive knowledge and passion for sports, particularly the Nigeria Premier Football League and track and field events, position him to effectively bridge the gap between veteran members of SWAN and the younger generation.

In addition to Ogundiya, Femi Dairo from the Ondo State chapter has been appointed as the Zonal Treasurer, while Olajide Idowu from the Osun State chapter will serve as the Zonal Welfare Officer. The appointments, which take immediate effect, were confirmed by the Vice President of SWAN’s South West Zone, Ayodeji Ogunsakin.

In his acceptance, Ogundiya expressed gratitude to Lagos SWAN, acknowledging the support of its chairman, Debo Oshundun, and acting secretary, Oni Afolabi. He pledged to work tirelessly to elevate Lagos and the South West Zone back to their leadership positions within the association.
