Okaka, Behrami key to my Watford switch, says Troost-Ekong

New Watford signing, William Troost-Ekong, says he spoke to three former Hornets players at Udinese ahead of his switch to Hertfordshire.

The Super Eagles defender became Vladimir Ivic’s latest recruit on Tuesday evening, signing a five-year contract at Vicarage Road.

The 27-year-old center-back says he spoke with three players very familiar with Watford fans – Marvin Zeegelaar, Stefano Okaka, and Valon Behrami, who are now all at Udinese, and says they helped convince him to join Ivic’s side.

“I am quite close with Marvin Zeegelaar and Stefano Okaka and they know the club inside out,” said Troost-Ekong in an interview with the club website.

“And then there was [Valon] Behrami before that. I’ve listened to their experiences and now I want to make my own.

“They all had good things to say and I’m excited to be here.

“It was really great to be part of an exciting time at Udinese for two years, but there comes a time to take the next step and for me, it felt the right next step in my career.”

Troost-Ekong could make his debut this weekend when Watford travels to Madejski Stadium to take on Reading on Saturday afternoon.
