Tagged ‘Muhammadu Buhari (MUBU) Peace and Unity Cup, the competition, according to the group, is a secondary school football competition, which will run through the local councils, states and regions in September before getting to the national finals slated for Kaduna on a yet to be decided date.
Speaking on the essence of the competition in Lagos at the weekend, Chairman, Sportswatch Worldwide Concept, Abraham Ogenyi, said his organisation decided to partner with the Sports Ministry to engender national peace and encourage socio-cultural relationships among Nigerian youths.
He added, “it is the need for sustainable peace and unity in a country so endowed with huge potentials in both human and natural resources that spurred my desire to harness the single most important and veritable tool for unity, which the country has utilized over the years.
“Football, as a global sport is generally accepted as an instrument of socio-cultural and political reintegration, and the engendering of national and global peaceful co-existence. More than any other time in our country, except perhaps after the Civil War, do we need peace and unity?”
