Oshoala wants better support for women football
• Ajayi donates bus to FC Robo
Ahead of the kick off of the CAF Women’s Champions League billed to start in 2021, sports philanthropist and General Overseer of Love of Christ Generation Church, Rev. Mother Esther Ajayi, has donated a bus to FC Robo of Lagos to help the club plan and successfully participate in the competition.
The donation, made through the Asisat Oshoala Foundation, is another effort by reigning CAF’s Female African Footballer of the Year to improve the transport logistics of home-based women players.
Rev. Mother Ajayi, who is the patron of FC Robo, said she is working hard to reposition the club that produced Oshoala from the grassroots.
FC Robo Queens, which is based in Mushin, Lagos State, features in the Nigerian Women Premier League.
Speaking on the donation, Oshoala said it would ease the stress from the women footballers during league games.
“I am excited that Rev. Mother Ajayi is providing transportation for my former team, FC Robo of Lagos. They play in the Nigerian women’s league and transportation is another key factor for a team that plays in over 36 states… this will help the mobility of the players because they are women.
“This is the team I came from and as a Lagosian, I want to see my former team prosper.
“Now that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has also announced the creation of women’s Champions League, I am doing everything possible for a team from Lagos State to represent Nigeria next year at the event.
“We all need to put hands together to grow women’s football because women are the hope of Africa. Therefore, we need to grow and market women’s football across the continent and give hope to the Nigerian girl/child,” Oshoala said.
She revealed that she would kick off a food project for vulnerable children in December, adding that free food would be distributed to kids and other vulnerable people.
