Oyo education ministry moves to improve school sports
Bothered by the declining rate of sports in its schools, the Oyo State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has started collaborating with some private firms to arrest the situation.
Speaking at Lagelu Grammar school Ibadan while flagging off a one-day seminar designed for games masters in all public secondary schools in the state, the acting permanent secretary of the ministry, Mrs. Fatoki I. Ibironke expressed the desire and determination of the Abiola Ajimobi administration to reposition and revive the schools sports.
He said the desire for improvement in schools sports necessitated the involvement of a schools expert, the TKO Sports in the process.
The workshop was held for games masters in all the eight local inspectorate of educations (LIEs) in the state, including Ibadan City, and Less City, Ogbomosho, Oyo, Irepo, Saki, Kajola and Ibarapa.
It was organized by TKO Sports in collaboration with the Oyo State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology.
Mrs. Ibironke directed the firm to collaborate with the Nigeria Association of Physical, Health Education, Recreation, Dance & Sport
(NAPHER-SD), which is the professional body of the games masters, to raise a communiqué after the workshop. She said the communiqué would be presented it to the government for onward implementation.
Also speaking at the workshop, the Chief Executive Officer of the TKO Sport, Mr. Tokunbo Ladipo expressed his delight with the successes recorded while going round the state to conduct the one-day seminar for the teachers, adding that the exercise revealed a lot of factors affecting the work of the games masters.
He however promise a new dawn for school’s sports in Oyo State if all the new formulated policies can be well implemented and factors
identified affecting the jobs of the sports’ teachers can be thoroughly tackled as promised by the government.
