Plateau United, Rangers, Sunshine Stars set for Lagos pre-season tournament
Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) champions, Plateau United is set to storm Lagos for the Annual ‘Tata’ Cup Tournament, a pre-season competition billed to hold from November 20 to 24 at the Agege Stadium.
Plateau United’s head coach, Kennedy Boboye said the tournament is one of his preparatory engagements ahead of next season’s CAF Champions League, NPFL and the Aiteo Cup.
2016 NPFL champions, Rangers International FC of Enugu, who just employed seasoned manager, Gbenga Ogunbote as their new boss, are also expected at the event.
Other clubs, who have indicated their participation are NPFL campaigners, Sunshine Stars and El-kanemi Warriors; Nigeria National League club, Nnewi United, Lagos-based amateur clubs, 36 Lions FC, Yobo FC and Bethel FC.
The Eight teams will be drawn into two groups in a round robin format, and the first two teams in each group will proceed to the semi-finals.Tournament Director, John Tata said the winner will get N250, 000, runners-up N150, 000, while there will be awards for the highest goal scorer and Most Valuable Player.Defunct Sharks FC and Dolphins FC, Shooting Stars FC of Ibadan, Isoko United and Delta Force are winners of the previous editions.
