William Troost-Ekong says it was an honour to lead out his Watford teammates in last weekend’s Premier League encounter against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Nigeria international and Super Eagles vice-captain, who only joined the Hornets from Serie A club Udinese last summer, was handed the armband in his side’s 2-0 defeat at Vicarage Road.

Despite the disappointing the result, Troost-Ekong took to social media to show his appreciation.

“Absolute honour to lead the boys out for the first time over the weekend. Will always do my best for the team,” he posted on Twitter.

Watford, who only returned to the Premier League after gaining promotion from the English second-tier at the end of last season, have won just one of their four Premier League games so far this season.

Coached by Xisco Munoz, the London-based club will return to action on September 18 with an away game against Norwich City at Carrow Road.
