Rafael Nadal’s four prior US Open finals

Results of the four previous US Open men’s finals for Spain’s Rafael Nadal, who could win his 19th Grand Slam title and fourth US Open crown on Sunday at Arthur Ashe Stadium:

2017: Nadal wins 3rd Open
Rafael Nadal defeated South Africa’s Kevin Anderson 6-3, 6-3, 6-4 to capture his third US Open title and 16th Grand Slam victory overall. It was Nadal’s first hardcourt title since January 2014.

2013: Nadal wins 13th Slam
Rafael Nadal won his 13th career Grand Slam title by defeating Novak Djokovic 6-2, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1. Nadal, who moved past Roy Emerson to third on the all-time Slam list with the victory, was fighting for world number one as well but Djokovic kept the top spot by reaching the final.

2011: Nadal loses in final
Rafael Nadal could not claim back-to-back US Open titles, falling to Serbia’s Novak Djokovic 6-2, 6-4, 6-7 (3/7), 6-1. It was Djokovic’s first US Open title and third Grand Slam crown of the year. Nadal had dropped only one prior set in the tournament, that to Andy Roddick in a semi-final.

2010: Nadal’s Career Slam
Rafael Nadal defeated Serbia’s Novak Djokovic 6-4, 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 to capture his first US Open title and complete a Career Grand Slam. With his ninth Slam title, Nadal became the first Spanish man to take the US Open since Manuel Orantes in 1975. Nadal became the first man since Rod Laver in 1969 to win the French Open, Wimbledon and US Open in the same year and the first man to win Slams on clay, hardcourt and grass in the same year.
