Real Madrid’s Costa Rican goalkeeper Keylor Navas will on Thursday undergo an operation on his left foot after a recurrence of an achilles injury.

Navas, 29, underwent tests in Amsterdam on Monday after which there was a “decision to carry out a minimally invasive endoscopy on the left heel”, Real said in a statement.

Navas’s injury first flared in Real’s Champions League semi-final second leg victory over Manchester City, and forced him to miss the penultimate La Liga game of the season against Valencia.

Spanish media said Real’s physios helped Navas get through the Champions League final, which the team won on penalties. His injury, however, meant Costa Rica’s talisman was forced to sit out the Copa America.
