Congress to decide date as NSC proposes retreat for all federations

Stakeholders in the country’s basketball have agreed to hold a congress to decide when to hold the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) board elections.

The elections, as agreed by the stakeholders at a meeting chaired by the Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Bukola Olapade, will be held on any date before March 31, 2026.

According to a source at the meeting, the parley resolved the conflict among the current board members and other stakeholders, with everybody “agreeing to work to ensure free and fair elections.”

The source said that the stakeholders agreed to adopt the existing constitutions and the electoral guidelines in conducting the polls, adding that all eligible stakeholders interested in contesting for any position would be allowed to test their popularity among the electorate.

The source also revealed that the NSC has proposed a retreat involving all the federations to renew the federations’ commitment to uplifting Nigerian sport as directed by President Bola Tinubu.

“The National Sports Federations retreat will go over the NSC guidelines for the federations in June 2026 after the NBBF election,” the source added.
