Sunshine Stars determined to beat Rangers, Mafo, Sunday disclose
President of Sunshine Stars Football Club of Akure, Prince John Ola Mafo and the team’s Captain, Abe Sunday, have affirmed the team’s determination to be among the top clubs at the end of the season.
Speaking after the Akure-based team was forced to a goalless draw in a week 15 match at the Rwam Pam Stadium in Jos by Plateau United, Prince Mafo said the team is not losing focus.
“We thank the Almighty God for this result, even though we wanted the maximum points, but we are also happy to leave Jos with a precious point.
“ We say thank you to Mr. Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, who has remained our biggest supporter, and we also appreciate the efforts of all the fans, supporters, stakeholders, and the good people of Ondo State for their genuine cooperation and love.
“On our part, we have resolved to remain focused to achieve the set targets this season despite the efforts of enemies and detractors. The people of Ondo State deserve to be celebrated this season and that is why we are leaving no stone unturned.”
Team captain, Abe Sunday, also expressed the players’ readiness to continue from where they stopped in Jos as the team trade tackles with Enugu Rangers in a week 16 match billed for the Ondo State Sports Complex in Akure today.
“The match against Plateau United in Jos was a very difficult one, but we thank God Almighty for the outcome even though we wanted victory”.
“All the players have resolved to always put in more than 100 per cent performance on the pitch in a strong bid to achieve our aims this season.
“We are desperate to return to winning ways and we are targeting the match against against Rangers as the turning point. Our Management has given us enough encouragement and we are determined to repay the gesture by picking victories in our remaining matches.
“We thank our fans for their understanding and support so far and we appeal to them to come out in their thousands to cheers us on Wednesday against Rangers.”
