Vincent Enyeama fails to secure contract at Dijon FC
• Osimhen, Onyekuru set for Lique 1
After being out of competitive football for over two years, legendary Nigerian goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama was hoping to return to competitive football with French Ligue 1 club, Dijon FC, reports Zealmediacast blog.
But his trial at the club has been unsuccessful and coach Stephane Jobard has turned down the chance to hand the former Lille goalkeeper a contract.
Enyeama, now 36 year old, joint Lille in June 2011 from Hapoel Tel Aviv and was released from his contract with the French club in August 2018 after playing for them last in April 2017. He made 164 appearances for Lille in seven years.
He has also won 101 caps for Nigeria leading them to the 2013 AFCON triumph in South Africa.
The Nigerian goalkeeper has already left Dijon’s training camp at Vittel.
His quest for a new challenge continues while Dijon continue in their search for another goalkeeper.
Dijon plays host to Saint-Etienne on August 10, 2019 in their opening fixture of the new French Ligue 1 season.
While Enyeama will hope for success elsewhere, the story is different for Super Eagles strikers, Victor Osimhen and Henry Onyekuru, who are reportedly close to joining different Ligue 1 sides.
The duo, who were part of the Super Eagles team that finished third at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, have attracted interest from Lille and Monaco respectively.
Osimhen is currently undergoing medicals at Lille and is set to replace Rafael Leão as the club’s top marksman. Les Douges reportedly paid 12m Euros, which could rise up to 20m for the 20-year-old.
Onyekuru, meanwhile, is attracting interest from Monaco. The 21-year-old spent last season on loan from Everton at Galatasary, where his 14 goals in the Turkish topflight helped the Lions to Super Liga title.
It was expected he would return to the Toffees this season, but the Nigerian international has reportedly been denied a work permit once again.
With the latest setback, Everton are considering the option of selling the former Anderlecht striker outright and Monaco looks set to be the destination.
