TEXT: 2 Corinthians 5:12-20

Key Verse: 2 Corinthians 5:20, “Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God.” (NKJV)

An ambassador for Christ is a messenger and a representative of Christ on earth. Just as an earthly ambassador represents and communicates the desires and will of the head of state that sent him or her, so also Christ ambassadors represent and communicate Christ’s desires and will to others. Christ ambassadors do not represent their own interests.

An Ambassador for Christ is an asset to the local church and committed to the work of God in the local church. He must show himself strong in the Lord Jesus and Christ must be written all over him. An Ambassador for Christ represents Christ in all he does, even when he is attending meetings in his professional circles. You cannot be an Ambassador for Christ when you are living contrary to what the Bible says. Ambassador for Christ is an ambassador of the Kingdom of God and it is about the Kingdom of God. God is king, God is the authority, God is in charge and God is in control of his life.

People come to church from different places and backgrounds. Whatever our different backgrounds maybe, what has actually brought us together or who Has actually brought us together is Christ, because we say we believe in the same person, we have accepted Him as our Lord, Saviour and King of our lives, then we came together and left our tribes and profession aside. The basic of it all is that no matter what your profession maybe is that you are representing Christ through your professional career. For example, you are representing Christ as a Christian lawyer, Christian doctor, Christian Engineer, etc. Christ must take the lead and go before anything else and that is what is very important.

An Ambassador for Christ must not by any stretch of imagination overtake or assume greater importance than being an ambassador for Christ. If anyone who says he is a Christian cannot represent Christ, that person has failed. No matter your position in the church, you should not forget that you are first an ambassador for Christ before anything else. You have to prove that Christ lives in you and everything about you should be about Christ. The great psalmist says, “Let the words of my heart and the meditations of my heart be acceptable to you O Lord” (Psalm 19:14). The Bible said Jesus was extremely obedient even unto death and put Himself beneath so that His father will come up (Philippians 2:8).

As Christ Ambassadors, we are fragrances of Christ to the dying world. We are to go out to preach Christ to sinners and reconcile them back to God. We should be committed to loving, sharing, and helping one another. God Has called us to be His ambassadors, so we are Christ ambassadors and God is making His appeal through us to sinners to come back to God. We speak for Christ when we plead and we demonstrate the truth and power of our words through our character. Our most important role as Christ ambassadors is to honour Christ in front of the universe. Christ ambassadors are committed to calling people across the world to come out of spiritual Babylon, that they may come into a community devoted to rebuilding broken lives back into the character of Jesus.

As Christ ambassadors, our citizenship is in Heaven, and though we are currently living in this world, it is only a temporary home.
