The Chairperson, Association of Professional Women Bankers, Funke Feyitan, has enjoined registered and prospective members to equip themselves with necessary knowledge, to ward off shocks that might crop up in life.

Immediate Past Chairperson, Association of Professional Women Bankers (APWB), Mrs. Tinuke Leye-Ishola (left); APWB Chairperson & Executive Director, Coronation Merchant Bank, Mrs. Funke Ladimeji; Special Guest, Dr. Evelyn Oputu; Past APWB Chairperson, Dr. Folashade Ojo; Past AWB Chairperson, Mrs. Taiwo Ige; and CIBN Council Member, Dr. Moji Bakare, during the IWD 2022 celebration, in Lagos.

She gave the advice in her welcome address, during the celebration of Year 2022 International Women’s Day in Lagos, where the women stood in solidarity with victims of gender imbalance and persecution. The association also used the platform to identify with women and people of Ukraine.

The Chairperson said: “We are living through an interesting time by the moment. We have experienced many shocks in the last few years. While we cannot predict when these shocks would come, we know they would come. In 2000, 2007 and 2008, we experienced financial shocks. Two years ago, we experienced pandemic – another shock. And today, we have heard another shock and so our prayers go out to the people of Ukraine.

The First Vice-Chairperson, APWD, Mrs Olukemi Ibiwoye, said the organisation looks forward to women breaking various biases in the workplace and other spheres of life and thus shattering the glass ceiling by attaining lofty heights in their various fields of endeavour.

Special Guest, Dr. Evelyn Oputu, a banking icon and Board member, said a person’s upbringing could significantly influence the person’s career.
