Group Donates Hostel To College of Education

The Mothers’ Union and Women’s Guild of the Anglican Communion, Nnewi Diocese, last week, dedicated a 96-bedroom off-campus students’ hostel it built and equipped to Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe, (NOCEN), Anambra State.

The Mothers’ Union and Women’s Guild of the Anglican Communion, Nnewi Diocese, last week, dedicated a 96-bedroom off-campus students’ hostel it built and equipped to Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe, (NOCEN), Anambra State.

The hostel, according to the Bishop of Nnewi Diocese, Rt. Rev. Godwin I. N. Okpala, is to encourage the growth of education in the state. He called on other groups in the church and community to emulate the women’s union.

Speaking at the event, President of the Mothers’ Union and Women’s Guild of the Diocese, Mrs. Eugenia Okpala, said the hostel project was constructed to address accommodation needs of NOCEN students. She explained that it would enable them have affordable, accessible and quality shelter. She said most of the challenges that led to the poor academic performance and ailments among the students could be prevented, if decent hostel was provided.

The President of the Mothers’ Union commended the effort of Mr. Humphrey Ngonadi, Rev. Canon Chukwunonso Arinze and Mrs. Lois Nwangwu for their diligent and selfless commitment to the successful completion of the hostel.

The Administrative Secretary to the Bishop of Nnewi, Ven. Godwin Agba, said the project has boosted the educational and community development programmes of the church, adding that the church should go back to the drawing board and contribute to nation-building aside the spiritual guidance it renders.
