THE Crescent University, Abeokuta, has awarded degrees to 435 graduates in different programmes, at its 2015 convocation ceremony held last week.

At the seventh convocation ceremony, 26 graduates obtained First Class grade, just as eminent Nigerians were conferred with Honorary Doctorate degrees, based on their contributions to the development of the university.

Among those who received Honorary degrees were Chief Rasak Okoya, Professor Dawud Olatokunbo Shittu and Otunba Babatunde Olukoya.

In his speech, the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Ibraheem Gbajabiamila called on governments at all levels to see entrepreneurship education as one of the major solutions to the economic problems of Nigeria, insisting, “Education is the most powerful weapon to change the world.”

Gbajabiamila stated that university graduates should not only be job seekers, but also entrepreneurs who create jobs through the knowledge received in school.

According to him, “Our graduates are doing very well in the wider marketplace and academia in Nigeria and overseas. They are not only job seekers but also entrepreneurs and inevitable job givers. We are proud of our excellent training and have great confidence in our graduates.”

“As Crescent University graduates, we have equipped you to succeed and you can look to the future with confidence. Our education, plus our integrity and moral excellence should guide you always, so that you can be an inspiration to those around you.

“The Vice Chancellor added, “Today, you have taken the first step in a journey of lifelong learning. It is a great pride to those of us that have encouraged you over the years.

“The Proprietor of the school, Prince Bola Ajibola who said he was proud of the achievements the school recorded in the last 10 years, disclosed that the graduates are the success story of the school.

His words, “We are proud that we have been able to demonstrate with our products, a worthy combination of moral and academic excellence. Our graduates continue to perform exceedingly well in both industry and post-graduate studies, lending unassailable credence to the depth of the certificates awarded by this university.

The best graduating student, Miss Fagbohun Oyinkansola who graduated with first class honors of 4.58 grade point from the department of Economics said she was grateful to the school for giving her the best education.
