Godfrey Okoye University (GOU) Radio has won the 2015 Nigeria Broadcasters Merit Award, as the best campus radio station in Nigeria. Vice Chancellor of the school, Prof. Christian Anieke, confirmed this in Enugu during the public presentation of the trophy.
Anieke attributed the success to the desire of the institution
to breed outstanding broadcasters in the country.
The VC said the institution would continue to do its best to make the radio station a training ground for students.
“It will be my dream to see our students, especially those in mass
communication pass through the radio and becoming stars in the field,” he said.
Anieke said it had been a big challenge keeping the station on
air due to the enormous resources required to do that.
“It is quite expensive to run a radio station due to so many variables involved. Getting Nigerians to listen to radio stations is another challenge,” he noted.
Anieke said the radio station would be at the forefront of the campaign to break media apathy and make Nigerians properly informed through the media.
The head of presentation of the radio station, Mr. Alex Ogbodo, said the award was an indication that GO Uni Radio established in 2015 could compete with major campus radio stations.
Ogbodo said GO Uni Radio competed with 10 others to emerge winner.
