God is not aloof and indifferent to the problems and sufferings of his people. Whether their sufferings are for the sake of Christ or whether they are as a result of the unjust policies of men, God is touched by the plight, the afflictions and troubles His children go through. God cares about the situations that concern His children.
In Isaiah 43:1-2, God clearly states this: “But now, thus says the Lord, who created you, O Jacob, and He who formed you, O Israel: ‘fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; you are Mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, nor shall the flame scorch you,” (Isaiah 43:1-2 NKJV). God’s word to Israel, “you are mine” indicates His paternal affection.
If the Lord could care for the birds of the air that neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, shall He not care for His covenant children who are of greater value in stature? “Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘what shall we eat?’ or ‘what shall we drink?’ or ‘what shall we wear?’ For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things,” (Matthew 6:30-32 NKJV).
God is obligated to care for us because we are His covenant children. Romans 8:35,38-39 says nothing shall separate us from the love of God.
If the father of the prodigal son could lovingly receive his son when he returned home, then our heavenly Father is even more compassionate than the father of the prodigal son. The Psalmist says: “As a father pities his children, so, the Lord pities those who fear Him. For He knows our frame; He remembers that we are dust,” (Psalms 103:13-14 NKJV). God’s pity for his children is not only because of their weaknesses, but also because of their sufferings.
God was touched by the misery of the children of Israel in captivity. He responded to their groanings while in captivity, (Exodus 2:23-25). “And I have also heard the groaning of the children of Israel whom the Egyptians keep in bondage, and I have remembered My covenant. Therefore say to the children of Israel: ‘I am the Lord; I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, I will rescue you from their bondage, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with great judgments,” (Exodus 6:5-6 NKJV).
God demonstrated His affection in the way he responded to Hagar and her child in the wilderness of Beersheba. Having used up their bread and water, they were left in the lurch not knowing how to get the next meal and water. God miraculously showed up and asked Hagar, “What ails you, Hagar?” God may be asking someone reading this piece the same question, “What ails you?
Without a doubt, the past few months have been excruciating for many families all over the country. Many are wondering: “Where is God?” Inflation, the devaluation of the currency and the increase in the price of fuel have combined to reduce many workers to penury and beggars. All these notwithstanding, let us be assured that God cares about us. Therefore, He will take care of you in this season.
