The President of God’s Kingdom Society (GKS), also known as The Church of the Living God, Brother Felix Ekundayo Adedokun, has enjoined Nigerian youths to be spiritually-minded in all their endeavours and to avoid the pursuit of carnality and sinful pleasures.
The warning was contained in his address delivered recently by the Assistant Station Minister of the Church in Lagos, Brother Jonathan ChidinmaOchiagha, at the yearly Youth Fellowship Assembly of the Church, titled: “Labour Not For The Meat That Perisheth,” held during a Divine Service in various zones of the Church within and outside the country.
The president who took the theme of his address from John 6:27, emphaised that Christ’s teaching was on the essence of spiritual food or God’s word, which He personified in His days on earth.
He admonished Christian youths to obey the call of the master by striving for that “meat, which endureth unto everlasting life.”
The cleric who cited some Bible characters like Esau who sold his birthright to his brother, Jacob, and King Saul, who committed the sin of disobedience, among others, maintained that the primary duty of man is to be spiritually-minded, holding on to Jesus Christ and His word, in order to get life and peace in God’s everlasting kingdom here on earth.
The Lagos Zone of the church consisting 10 branches witnessed a massive turn out of young people, who converged at the GKS Service Hall, Apapa, to participate in Bible quiz. The youth activities were rounded off the following day with a divine service that featured songs of praises to God, a special thanksgiving for God’s blessings and favours in diverse ways and the presentation of prizes to winners of the various activities organised for the event.
The Youth Assembly was also celebrated at the headquarters of the Church, Salem City, Warri. While in Canada, Brother Olufemi David Akinwale, who had earlier conducted a similar exercise in Houston, US, presided over the event in Hamilton, Canada, where four groups participated in the Bible quiz. Gideon Winners and Saint Paul Mission were joint winners with 94 points. Truth Bearers was second with 82 points, while Christians in Action group had 79 points.
Station Minister in Accra, Ghana, Timothy Esimagbele, took charge of the youth assembly activities in a colourful manner. While, in Monrovia, Liberia, the local elders of the Church conducted the activities of the youth assembly with supervision from the headquarters.
In the UK, GKS youths converged at the University of Nottingham Business Centre, where they observed this year’s youth programme.
Other highlights include a sermon, “Resisting Pressure to Conform to this World” taken by Brother Precious Ahante, the Youth Chairman of GKS London Branch. The event also featured musicals by children, choir performance and sporting activities.
The Youth Assembly was well-attended with over 570 delegates from the UK, Ireland, Netherlands, France, Spain, Italy and Nigeria.
In a remark titled: “Do not Conform to the World, But Follow after God’s righteousness,” the UK officiating minister, Brother Timothy Mazi-Rapu, enjoined the youths to shun worldliness and sensuality.
T
he Lagos Zone officiating minister, Brother Joshua Chukwudi, a senior minister and member of the Executive Board exhorted the youths not to entangle themselves with the “former lust,” to remove sin from their hearts, and to avoid evil.
