Jesus the great deliverer – Part 2

Text: Mark 5:1-20

Key Verse: Mark 5:15, “And they come to Jesus, and see him that was possessed with the devil, and had the legion, sitting, and clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid.” (KJV)

Jesus the great deliverer frees from bondage to sin, heal all manner of sickness and remove obstacles, thoroughly and completely. Jesus encountered a man possessed by unclean spirits, when He entered the city of Gerasenes. This man had been tormented by this wicked spirits living inside of him. He gashed himself with sharp stones broken from the rocks and his body was covered with wounds. He lived in the burial tombs and was moving about, yelling at people with intent to do them injury.

He knew nothing about comfort, because he was always crying as the evil spirits tormented him. Imagine someone whose relations will go after him, grab him and use chains and shackles to bind him, but the evil spirits will break them off. No man had a solution to his problem.

Imagine someone living in the cemetery, crying day and night and cutting himself with stones. He was completely under the control of wicked spirits. I wouldn’t know if you have gone and entered into some agreements with the devil, marine spirit and all types of evil spirit on top of the mountains, on the trees, in the rivers and in the oceans. As a result of these dirty dealings, you have no real joy and peace. Probably you are now looking for a way out, because you’ve walked into certain aspects of this wicked and violent relationship that they never told you about when you were getting into them.

Thanks be to God for Jesus the great deliverer, Who can deliver you from all the imprisonment of the devil. God sent Jesus into the world to save sinners and to set the captives free (Luke 4:18). The Bible said this man one day met Jesus. The evil spirits living inside of this man cried out, “what have we to do with you Jesus, the son of the most high God, please Jesus do not torment me”. The demons recognised the supremacy of the power of God over them y referring to Jesus as “Son of the Most High God”. Jesus rebuked the evil spirits, “Come out of him you unclean spirit” and the man was delivered. The demons couldn’t resist Jesus’ command but plead for His mercy. So, Jesus gave them permission to enter the herd of pigs, about 2,000 of them. These herds of pigs were driven down into the deep water by these evil spirits and they all got drowned.

The people living in the communities gathered and saw this man now resting peacefully at the feet of Jesus. From his eyes gleamed intelligence and heavenly peace. Those hands that had torn chains apart and beaten himself now rest peacefully in his lap. This man’s case has been written off and nobody ever believed that anything good could come out of him. His relations had reached the end of the road, and they had nothing else to add and nowhere else to take him.

I wouldn’t know whether the doctors had given up on you or your economic problems have weighed you down and people have come to think there will never be any positive change, and I wouldn’t know whether the yoke of sin has weighed you down. Today, you can be delivered and the Lord, Who is merciful and gracious, will once again exercise His mercy upon your life.
