Kebbi NUJ distributes Ramadan package to families of deceased members

Kebbi State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has distributed foodstuffs and financial assistance to families of the deceased colleagues.

Presenting the package to the beneficiaries at premises of Kebbi Television Service, Birnin Kebbi, Acting Head of Service, Alhaji Sufiyanu Garba Bena who was represented by Acting Permanent Secretary Ministry of Information and Culture, Alhaji Aliyu Abubakar, commended NUJ for the gesture and called on other unions to emulate the initiative.

Bena said: “Death is inevitable, every one will definitely die one day, so there is no doubt about it, that is why this gesture must be supported.” He prayed Allah to forgive the deceased and make paradise to be their final abode.

In his remarks, Acting Permanent Secretary Ministry of Information and Culture, Alhaji Aliyu Abubakar who was represented by Director of Information Services, Alhaji Umar Rasheed Gulma, praised NUJ for its commendable effort and urged them to extend the gesture to other less privileged members.

The former Permanent Secretary Ministry of Information and Culture, Alhaji Garba Hamisu Zuru suggested for the establishment of a foundation aimed at assisting not only the deceased families, but less privileged members in the profession.

Also, the Head of Administration, Labana Rice Mill Limited, Alhaji Alhassan Yusuf urged NUJ to solicit for assistance towards the gesture beyond government institutions and corporate organisations to individuals so as to improve the lives of the deceased members.

In their separate remarks, the Zonal Vice President of NUJ, Muhammad Tukur Umar and Chairman of the State Council, Comrade Hamza Galadima Zuru, said the programme was initiated by immediate past council six years ago and sustained by present council.

They thanked Sajo Rice, Labana Rice, Relwan State Coordinator, Federal Road Maintenance Agency, Kebbi APC Governorship candidate, Dr. Nasir Idris and Alhaji Ibrahim Bagudu and other donors for the philanthropic gesture, while urging well-to-do individuals in the society to assist families of the deceased persons and the less privileged in order to uplift their living standard.

Highlight of the occasion was the presentations of the grains and financial assistance to the 20 beneficiaries
