Lack of God’s wisdom

J. A. Shodeinde

“The fool hath said in his heart, there is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good,” (Psalms 14:1).

Fools deny God. They blaspheme the Most High God. Fools reproach their maker. They find it hard to believe they will stand before the ruler of heaven and earth to give account on how they have lived their lives in this world. Lack of wisdom makes humans to keep wallowing in sin, and not minding its consequences. Fools despise God’s instructions. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: but fools despise wisdom and instruction,” (Proverbs 1:7). People who lack God’s wisdom hate knowledge. They have a prideful heart. They believe they know all, and do not want to learn more or discover new things about Christ and God’s kingdom. Anyone who regards reproof is prudent.

According to Revelation 2: 1-5, the church of Ephesus was criticised. In this evaluation, there was a development of a weakening condition in the church right from its inception, which made it to be reprimanded. Through this evaluation, the church was given the opportunity to return to its original acceptable standard. This critique was not an ordinary one. It was made by the one who was qualified and possessed the authority to do so. His name is the glorified and exalted Jesus Christ. We must heed to God’s warnings at all times. God can send anyone to reproof you. We are under spiritual scrutiny by Jesus Christ through the Holy Spirit. We cannot unresolved sin or live our lives the way we want it and expect God not to rebuke us. God does not want the death of sinners, but He wants them to embrace repentance. A fool does not delight in understanding. It is crucial that we understand God’s purpose in our lives. Many of God’s purposes are still being revealed to us, but we are yet to understand them, because of our lack of understanding.

“Thy hands have made me and fashioned me: give me understanding that I may learn thy commandments,” (Psalms 119:73). To understand God’s word and also to obey His commandments, understanding is key. “Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures” (Luke 24:45).

A fool engages in mischief and walks in darkness. Jesus is the light of this world. Followers of Jesus do not walk in darkness as the followers of the devil. Jesus is light of life. If you do not have Jesus to lead you, you will not be able to see in this world. Which path have you chosen? Is it the path of darkness, unrighteousness and obscurity? We claim that we walk in the light of God, and we want to experience the brightness of God’s glory, but we have chosen the paths that are dark and uncertain. Let the Holy Spirit guide us and let’s stop walking according to our own understanding.

Fools come to shame. “The wise shall inherit glory: but shame shall be the promotion of fools,” (Proverbs 3:35). Fools may realise how foolish they have been after damage has been done. A fool destroys himself by his speech and he also depends on his wealth. “But God said unto him, thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?” (Luke 12:20). Avoid people who lack God’s wisdom, so, you can live. Follow the way of wisdom and understanding. Fools will be afflicted because of their transgression and iniquities. “Judgments are prepared for scorners, and stripes for the back of fools,” (Proverbs 19:29).
