Learning to do the works of Jesus

How did Christ Jesus defy the physical laws of flotation and upthrust to walk on water? How did He defy laws of geology to still the winds and waves? How did the Saviour defy laws of biology and genetics, healing all manner of sickness, including one born blind, and even raising the dead? Why did He say in John 14:12 that the works He did, we shall do also? After all, ordinary people like Moses, Elijah, Peter and Paul to name a few, healed leprosy, raised the dead, fed thousands with very little food, healed diseases and walked out of a securely fastened prison. They, too, defied various material laws. Is it too much to expect to see such happenings in the 21st century, and with such regularity that it becomes a matter of course — natural rather than supernatural?

If Jesus says we can, it must be so. John 8:32 states: ‘Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free’. Our duty is to know the truth. It is the truth that then makes one free to follow the works of the master Christian. Jesus says in John 14:6 that He is the way, the truth and the life. Knowing Christ as the truth is much more than getting to know a person, it is coming to the spiritual understanding of what Christ’s salvation means. Jesus implies through His preaching and parables that salvation means having the Kingdom of heaven within (Luke 17:24).

Mary Baker Eddy discovered what Jesus understood about the truth that led to His consistent healings. She writes in Science and Health with key to the Scriptures that Jesus beheld the perfect man, rather than a sinning, sickly mortal, and this correct view of man healed. She wrote about this method of Christ healing in her book, which opens with the statement, ‘The prayer that reforms the sinner and heals the sick is an absolute faith that all things are possible to God—a spiritual understanding of Him, an unselfed love’. Absolute faith was the keynote of Jesus’ healing ministry.
