Isaiah 45:22 was the heart-stirring text that God used to arrest the attention of Charles Haddon Spurgeon on January 6, 1850. Spurgeon was on his way to a scheduled appointment when due to a snowstorm, he decided to take refuge in a Church. And there, he providentially met the preacher speaking from this text. It was then the Lord illuminated his heart and he gave his life to the Lord. Charles H. Spurgeon later became a prominent pastor and preacher. He earned the title, the prince of preachers, due to his prolific writing skills and outstanding eloquence. Just as God gave Charles H. Spurgeon illumination and direction through this text, He can also give us direction in 2020.

“Look to Me, and be saved, All you ends of the earth! For I am God, and there is no other” (Isaiah 45:22 NKJV). This invitation to look to God is to every one. If we desire to make any meaningful progress in 2020, we must look in the right direction, to the Lord of the universe for guidance and for sustenance. Our success in 2020 does not lie in those prophecies from so-called prophets, nor is it in catchy slogans or phrases, but it is only in connecting to the person of Jesus Christ and His Word.

God invites us to look to Him for direction in 2020. He invites us to look to Him for our supplies. He is our Shepherd who will not allow us to live in lack (Psalm 23:1). He invites us to look to Him as the fountain of life. He alone can satisfy our thirst and hunger (John 7:37). He invites us to look to Him for instructions; He is our guide (Psalm 32:8). He invites us to look to Him for our healing; He is the Lord that heals our diseases (Ex.15: 26). He invites us to look to Him for wisdom; we need Him to excel in our endeavours (Col.2: 3). He invites us to look to Him for help; He is our Helper in time of trouble. As many who will look to Him in 2020 will not be ashamed! Look to Him in faith and walk in sync with Him.

The command “Look to Me and be saved” means to get focused and glued to God. It means you should trust Him to see you through 2020. We find a similar command in Numbers 21:1-9, when the children of Israel murmured against Moses and God in the wilderness. The Lord sent a fiery serpent to attack them, but when they acknowledged their sins and cried out to Him for mercy, He then said to Moses, “Make a fiery serpent, and set it on a pole; and it shall be that everyone who is bitten, when he looks at it, shall live.”

So, Moses made a bronze serpent, and put it on a pole; and so it was, if a serpent had bitten anyone, when he looked at the bronze serpent, he lived” (Numbers 21:8-9 NKJV). Just as Israel looked at the bronze pole on which hung the bronze serpent and were saved, so those who look to the Lord shall be saved. The incidence of Numbers 21:8-9 was a sign that points to the Lord Jesus Christ, Who was later hung on the cross to bring salvation to man (John 3:14). Those who look to Him shall live.
