An attack is a sudden violent attempt to hurt. Spiritual attack happens in the spiritual dimension of man. Man is a spirit that has a soul, which is encased in the body of flesh. This is to say man exists in the physical and spiritual realms of the earth. Whatever happens to man in his physical dimension is reflected in his spiritual dimension and vice versa. It is on this basis that an attack on the spiritual dimension of man affects him in his physical life. The Lord Jesus made a reference to this fact in Matthew 18:18, where the spirit realm was referred to as the heavenly realm.

“Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.” (Matt 18:18)

Example Of Spiritual Attack
Balak the king of Moabite commissioned Balaam (the curse master) to put the people of Israel under a curse that would weaken their military capability.

“He sent messengers therefore unto Balaam the son of Beor to Pethor, which is by the river of the land of the children of his people, to call him, saying, Behold, there is a people come out from Egypt: behold, they cover the face of the earth, and they abide over against me: Come now therefore, I pray thee, curse me this people; for they are too mighty for me: peradventure I shall prevail, that we may smite them, and that I may drive them out of the land: for I wot that he whom thou blesses is blessed, and he whom thou cursest is cursed.” (Number 22:5&6)

Balak actually desired spiritual attack on the children of Israel. Goliath also put David under a curse by his god but to no avail.

“And the Philistine said unto David, Am I a dog, that thou comest to me with staves? And the Philistine cursed David by his gods. (1st Samuel 17:43)

Attack Initiated By The Believers
Prayer warfare is actually spiritual attack against the enemies of the believers. This is to say it is not only the demonic people that wage spiritual wars. Every prayer of the believer is an attack on the forces of darkness.

Example Of Rephidim
At Rephidim, the Amalekites double-crossed the children of Israel and halted their journey to their destiny. Moses, Aaron and Hur went to the hilltop, where Moses waged spiritual warfare that reflected in the fighting that Joshua did on the battlefield.

“Then cane Amalek, and fought with Israel in Rephidim: And Moses said unto Josha, Choose us out men, and go out, fitht with Amalek: tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in mine hand. So Joshua did as Moses had said to him, and fought with Amalek: and Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill. And it came to pass, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed: and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed. But Moses’ hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat thereon; and Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun. And Joshua discomfited Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.” (Exodus 17:8-13)
