The name Jesus
Text: Acts 4:7-12
Key Verse: Mathew 1:21, “And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins.” (KJV)
Over and over again in Scripture you read, “In my name,” “In Jesus’ name,” or “In his name.” The name of Jesus is vital to the Christian walk. What more fitting name could there be for our Saviour than “Jesus”? The angel told Joseph to name the child Jesus, “because he will save his people from their sins.” According to Mailonline, Jesus is the most famous person in history and the name “Jesus” is the most frequently searched on the internet.
The devils were powerless because of his name (Luke 10:17). The demons were cast out in his name (Mark 16:17-18). Healing occurred in his name (Acts 3:6, 3:16, 4:10). Salvation comes in his name (Acts 4:12, Rom. 10:13). You are to be baptised in his name (Matt. 28:19). You are justified in his name (1 Cor. 6:11). Everything you do and say is done in His name (Col. 3:17).
The name “Jesus” saves a sinner from his sins – Acts 2:21, “And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” Are you a sinner? Call upon His name and you shall be saved. You can conquer sin in the name of Jesus. The Name of Jesus is the only name whereby you can be saved, no other name – Acts 4:12.
Believing in the name of Jesus gives you eternal life – John 20:31, “…and that believing ye might have life through his name.” Life! In vain did the explorers cross oceans seeking the mythical “fountain of youth.” And yet eternal life lay right within their grasp without ever leaving their home countries.
The name “Jesus” is the key to answered prayers – John 16:23, “… Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you.” Are there problems seeking for solutions in your life? If yes, pray in this powerful name “Jesus” and you shall receive answers to your prayers.
Incredible miracles and results happen when you pray in the name of Jesus – Acts 3:6, “Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.”
The name “Jesus” empowers His followers to accomplish greater works — including you if you are His follower – Mark 16:17-18, “[Jesus said] And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will drive out demons; … they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.” By faith in the name of Jesus, you can do supernatural signs.
The name “Jesus” is a Kingly Authority over all – Philippians 2:9-10, “Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name, which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth.” Citizens of a nation are not legally obligated to bow to the kings of other nations. But Jesus, by contrast, is “Lord of all.” All the citizens of the world no matter their nation bow to the name of Jesus. Have you bowed to the name of Jesus? Today is the acceptable day of salvation, ask Jesus to come into your life and save you from your sins. Then, you shall begin to experience the power in the name of Jesus.
