The victorious Christian life is a life lived in triumph over “everything in the world — the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life,” (1 John 2:16).
Every child of God should be the light of God in this dark world. He or she should live as a Christian in a world that is becoming increasingly non-Christian like. Christians are to lead morally and uprightly and show people the ways of Christ. You must set examples as a child of God and show people the way they will follow. The victorious life is a life of victory over sin. So, what does it mean to live the victorious Christian life? Simply put, living the victorious Christian life is living a life surrendered to God.
It is the will of God that you grow daily as a child of God unto maturity. As you grow as a Christian, you should be more grounded in faith, relationship and obedience to God. You need to know your identity in Christ. When you are born again, you belong to Christ, and you no longer own yourself. You have a new identity. You live to please Him alone and nothing else. You are now free from the power of sin and have true freedom in Christ from sin, shame, worry, and fear. The fact remains that we are living the Christian life in a sinful world. We daily need to surrender to the Lord and be filled with the Holy Spirit to guide and direct our steps. It is imperative we daily seek the Lord in how to live.
To live a victorious Christian life, you must study God’s word daily. The word of God should be your guide and instructor in your daily living. The Bible said your word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path (Psalm 119:105). You need air to survive. You need food and water to survive on earth. In the same way, you need the word of God to survive spiritually. Living a victorious Christian life without God’s word is like a one-legged man running a ten-thousand-meter race, which is to be completed in few minutes. The more you feed on the word, it transforms you into the image of Christ. You can only break your struggle with besetting sin with God’s word.
Fellowship of the saints is indispensable for victorious Christian living. Nothing is more dangerous in the Christian life than to separate oneself from the fellowship of the brethren. There is safety in fellowship with one another. Referring to the strength in the fellowship of saints, Solomon wrote: “Two are better than one…though one may be overpowered by another, two can withstand him” (Eccl. 4:9, 12). Daniel and his friends were able to boldly say no to idolatry and denial of their faith because they mutually strengthened one another in the hostile land (Dan. 2:17, 18; 3: 16-18).
A victorious Christian life is a life in which victory over sin is possible. It is not a life where there is no temptation, but a life where temptation is overcome (Hebrews 4:15). It is not a life of outward victory only, but also a life of inward victory. The victorious life is a life of victory over sin, self and Satan; a life of freedom from the power of sin as well as freedom from the penalty of sin; a life that is not only “reconciled to God by the death of His Son,” but also a life that is “saved through His life,” (Romans 5: 10).
There is only one victorious life, and when you received the Lord Jesus (John 1:12), you received that life.
