Access to light puts you in command over darkness. It is the light you bear that puts you in command over the forces of darkness and dominion over your world. Jesus said: “As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world,” (John 9:5). John 1:5 says that darkness cannot overcome light. In other words, there is no negotiation; darkness is helpless wherever there is light. Whenever light shows up, darkness disappears and glory shines. When you welcome the light of God into your life, darkness will give way in your life and the glory of God will begin to radiate in your life.

The darkness in man makes him incapable of recognising the light, even when it is shown to him. Man cannot see the light of Christ. Darkness is a state of ignorance that mankind is in. Darkness makes a person to hate the gospel and doctrine of Christ. Until you allow the light of the gospel to penetrate into your heart, you will walk in darkness. The light of God brings one to the knowledge of Christ and that is salvation (2 Corinthians 4:6). The god of this world is blinding the minds of unbelievers to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ. So, there is a battle going on in the mind for the soul of man between the god of this world and the true God. As believers, we must arise and contend spiritually for the souls of men. As we proclaim Christ, we are engaging in spiritual battle for people’s souls.

As believers, we must preach Christ and declare the light of the gospel of Christ to our dark world. And if we don’t preach Christ, if we don’t share Christ, then we too are keeping people from hearing and seeing the glory, and the beauty, and the love, and the grace of Christ. The gospel is the power of God unto salvation and we must preach it, so that, people will come out of darkness and experience the light of the gospel. Apostle Paul said in Romans 1:16: “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth.”

To experience the light of God, you must believe in the gospel. The gospel is good news that Jesus died for your sins and the power of sin has been broken. When you believe in the gospel, you begin to walk in the light and also live a life of victory over sin and works of darkness.

The light of God is more powerful than all the forces of darkness put together. To walk in the light is to walk in power, triumph, victory and dominion. Light defeats the power and effect of darkness. Jesus is the light that has come into the world, and He lives within all who believe in Him. As He lives within us, He enables us to walk in the light, while He also radiates His light through our lives.

In a world of moral and social decline, political unrest and spiritual decay to name a few, believers should shine as children of light, so, as to confront the darkness that has filled our society. While Jesus was on the cross, darkness came over the earth for three hours. He rose from the dead and was victorious over the powers of darkness! Jesus was, and is, a beacon in a world of darkness.
