My past sojourns – Part I
I am sure you are aware of the fact that the past outweighs the present and this is what necessitates the cross-examination of your past sojourns. It is inevitable. Now, let us both climb this ladder together to allow us to have a view of our past sojourns. Joseph is the perfect example of this sermon-topic because of the different circumstantial occurrences of his life sojourns. What a striking semblance! From his father’s house to the pit (Genesis 37:24), from the pit to the Midianite Merchant (28), from the merchant to Potiphar’s house (36), from Portiphar’s house to the prison (39:20) and from the prison to the palace (41:40). No! That cannot be. Palace? But, yes! He moved from the prison yard to the throne of the prime minister. So incredible!
No venture, no gain. Individual destinies are not the same. But the Lord, God of heaven has put all things under His own authority to utilise whatever happenstance of our lives for glory. The apostle Paul says ‘all things work together for the good of those who love God and especially for those who are called according to His own purpose’ (Romans 8:28) and Jesus also remarks about the blind man in John 9:1 that, ‘it is not because of the man’s sins or his parents’ but for the manifestation of God’s glory.’
• My past Sojourns: The real meaning Mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters and brethren in the Lord, everybody having the singular privilege to sit before this pulpit, listening to this ministration or reading through The Guardian newspaper, I am talking to you. There are steps to understanding things in life. Your past sojourns are those conditions you have had in the past, former environments, ex-lovers/ spouses, soul-ties with which you have parted (most especially your first loves), workplaces, churches, schools, rented apartments, hospitals from which you have donated blood or blood donated for you, covenant/vows between you and others, clubs and clothes/shoes (wears shared with somebody), among others. The list can be endless.
