The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and members of his cabinet to ease Nigerians’pains by giving the economy a human face.

The Christian body disclosed that Nigerians are now traumatised because of the hardship in the country.

Speaking through its president at a press conference to mark the end of its 2023 Executive Retreat with theme: “Going From Strength To Strength’’ held in Ibadan, Oyo State, Bishop Francis Wale Oke who spoke in company of other executive members said: “Look at the various matters that I mentioned such as insecurity, poor economy and awful corruption. We want you to relieve Nigerians of their pains.”

Urging the President to fight wars for Nigerians, Oke said: “Number two, Mr. President and the new cabinet, Nigerians are fighting personal war, economic war and war of survival, please fight their wars, don’t fight against them. Don’t fight against Nigerians. Whether they voted for you or they didn’t vote for you, fight their battle.”

He said since politicking is over government should now bring everybody together, identify their battlesand fashion out how they can survive whatever they are passing through.

“Don’t make any group of people your target or enemies, whether based on tribe, religion or ideology. Bring everybody together and fight their battles.

Oke also appealed to Nigerians to be ready to submit to the verdict of the presidential election tribunal in good faith, bearing in mind that there is a better tomorrow if the country is peaceful, he enjoined Nigerians to accept the verdict of the tribunal and let’s move on with rebuilding the foundation.

“We should come together in unity and let the healing begin because the politics of the past few months inflicted serious injury on people in various sectors of our nation. We should learn a lesson from Sudan. 30 years ago, they had an election that led to war. We cannot afford to fight a war. We do not want war in Nigeria. So, when the tribunal read out its verdict, let everybody bury the hatchet. Let’s join our hands together to build Nigeria. If we do that, another election would come. The loser now can then be the winner tomorrow if there is a nation. If there is war, there will be no room for elections, so let’s accept whatever verdict the tribunal would render and let’s go ahead to build a new Nigeria. The Lord will help us.

Oke called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his cabinet members not to allow Nigerians to go through the traumatic experience they have witnessed in the last eight years, adding that kidnapping, banditry, Fulani herdsmen, ritualism, and all manners of corruption heated the polity.

Advising the president, Oke cited Rehoboam in the Bible, who became king of Israel but instead of taking counsel from the elders, he listened to the youth and lost the kingdom.

He said: “Mr. President, heed this call, relieve Nigerians of their pains. Whether they voted for you or not, you are now the father of all Nigerians. Bring them together and help them, the Lord will help you.”

He informed that the Christian body is praying for the new government to succeed, adding that better days awaits the country and that Nigerians should come together to build a virile nation.

On the coup in Niger Republic and Economic Community of West African States(ECOWAS) stand, Oke said: “We appreciate the stand of Nigeria and ECOWAS against military coup. Military coup is old-fashioned and we don’t want it. Not in Nigeria and not in the West Africa sub-region or any part of the world. Blood will flow when you go to war, women would become widows when you go to war, children would become fatherless when you go to war. So, going to war should not be an option. What about trying sanctions? We are praying for you that the Lord will guide you as our president. Please, don’t go to war.”
