Prayer of agreement – Part 2
Text: Matthew 18:19-20
Key Verse: Deuteronomy 32:30, “How should one chase a thousand, and two put ten thousand to flight, except their Rock had sold them, and the Lord had shut them up?” (KJV)
The Bible teaches that there are different kinds of prayer. The prayer of agreement is one of them. The prayer of agreement usually involves two or more people coming together and deciding to pray concerning anything in particular that they desire. If, for instance, you want to effect a change in your job, family, health, or anything at all, you may call up someone whom you consider to be stable in the faith to pray in agreement with you.
In Mathew 18:19, the Bible says, “If any two of you shall agree”; that means it must involve two or more people. Then it says, “as touching anything that they shall ask”; that means you must be specific. In other words, the parties involved in the prayer must come together, spell out the points for which they‘ll be praying and they must pray in faith and in line with the Word. Having done all that, they can be certain that their prayers would be answered. The Bible says, “And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask anything according to his will, he heareth us” (1 John 5:14).
The devil hates people coming together spiritually, as he knows that when people get together in agreement in prayer that nothing will be impossible to them. The agreement works tremendous power in any union, be it family, church and business organisation. Anything we can fall out about can divide the body.
If you function in disagreement, you function at ‘a thousand level’, but if you function in agreement, you will function at “ten thousand levels”. We are better together than we are apart. The devil is after our agreement and so, we fall out with each other. When we fall apart, we divide the body because the power to take us to the next level is “agreement”. Your faith becomes extraordinary when you come into agreement.
In Joshua 6, Israel went to fight a battle which they had no skill, but they had an agreement. They needed to get access through Jericho to gain entrance into the Promised Land. The power of their agreement brought down the walls of Jericho. The whole structure and system in between the people of Israel possessing the Promised Land collapsed before their eyes. They took the entire city except for Ai.
The people of Israel lost the battle against Ai because one of them called Achan failed to come into agreement and broke the corporate covenant. Achan took from the things dedicated to destruction, contrary to the instruction God gave to them (Joshua 7:10). You will experience failure and loss when you refuse to come in agreement. God told the people to get back to the same spot where they were divided and defeated and then lead an attack against Ai, for the Lord will give them victory. This time, they got into an agreement and no one broke it and as a result, Ai was set ablaze.
The power of the church is in “agreement.” The church will change the world when we come together to pray. Prayer of the agreement is a sure way of praying and getting results. Power comes as a result of the agreement. In Acts 2:1-2, when the disciples came together in one accord, the power of God came down in their midst as of a rushing mighty wind. Great power is the result of an agreement. As the apostles prayed together, great power for witness was made available to them (Acts 4:31-33).
Today’s Nugget: Prayer of Agreement produces tremendous power.
