Zerubbabel was another person confronted by a stronghold, but help came through revelation. Zechariah 4:6-9 recorded this: “Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the Lord unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts. Who art thou, O great mountain? before Zerubbabel thou shalt become a plain: and he shall bring forth the headstone thereof with shoutings, crying, Grace, grace unto it. Moreover, the word of the Lord came unto me, saying, The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this house; his hands shall also finish it, and thou shalt know that the Lord of hosts hath sent me unto you.
Zerubbabel (like Nehimiah) clearly had an assignment on his hand. Human power and might were insufficient to accomplish the objective. Power is the product of individual effort. Might is the product of collective effort. Both were not sufficient to overcome the mountainous stronghold before Zerubbabel!
But one resource was available… “By my spirit says The Lord of the host.” The enablement of the hand of Zerubbabel by the spirit of God was the assurance that he would move from foundation to completion. This is the good news for you and I today. Isaiah 45:1-3 presents it clearly: “Thus saith the Lord to his anointed, to Cyrus (you can substitute you name here) whose right hand I have holden, to subdue nations before him; and I will lose the loins of kings, to open before him the two leaved gates; and the gates shall not be shut; I will go before thee, and make the crooked places straight: I will break in pieces the gates of brass, and cut in sunder the bars of iron: And I will give thee the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that thou mayest know that I, the Lord, which call thee by thy name, am the God of Israel.”
May Heaven’s resource avail for you to pull down every stronghold before you in Jesus’ name, Amen!
