To support the government’s effort in combating the ravaging COVID-19 pandemic, The African Church has donated food items to Lagos State government at the State House, Marina, Lagos, last Friday.

To support the government’s effort in combating the ravaging COVID-19 pandemic, The African Church has donated food items to Lagos State government at the State House, Marina, Lagos, last Friday.

Speaking on behalf of the Church, Primate of The African Church, His Eminence, Julius Olayinka Osayande Abbe, said the gesture was in appreciation of what the state had done so far in the fight against the deadly disease, and the proactive steps are taken to ameliorate the people’s suffering.

Primate Abbe noted that Lagos State had the highest number of COVID-19 cases in the country. He said the attendant effect of the lockdown on masses was quite worrisome, even though it was done with good intention.

He said: “In order to cushion the effect of the economic hardship on the people of the state, the Church thought it wise to support the state government by donating food items.”

Receiving the gift on behalf of Lagos State government, Dr. (Mrs.) Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, wife of Lagos State Governor, appreciated the Church’s good gesture. She said what the Church did was in line with the state’s slogan: ‘Ijoba Ipinle Eko, Ajumose gbogbo wa ni.’ She solicited more support and prayed for the Church’s progress.

Aside the support given to Lagos State government, The African Church also extended similar gesture to people of the various communities, where branches of the church are located across the country.
