What seems to be sounding louder by the day is the call for restructuring by various interest groups in Nigeria.

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and the party’s National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, have made strong statements where they supported restructuring as a panacea to many of the troubles bedeviling Nigeria as a nation.

Atiku Abubakar has said he will continue to support the restructuring of the country because the report of the 1995/96 Constitution Drafting Committee was not what was eventually released and foisted on the people of the country in 1999.

Today almost everybody agrees that there is a need for restructuring. So why are we not having it? Despite the apparent consensus, it is clear that most politicians are only paying lip service to it. If they want it, it would be done.

Ali Modu Sheriff-led National Working Committee of the PDP said the series of problems confronting the economy should be addressed before a proper restructuring could take place, stated that restructuring was not provided for in the PDP manifesto.
