To achieve digital transformation in businesses, Senior Manager, Sales, Africa Business at Western Digital, Ghassan Azzi, said that effective data storage devices is essential for business growth, continuity and future reference.

Aziz added that based on the relevance of data for smooth business operations, data must be stored as backup and be available for retrieval at any point in time.

Speaking during a media parley on Western Digital products in Lagos, he said solutions from the firm are flagship solutions that will make business experience a whole lot of fun, with the potential to drive growth and sustain competition. “With technology evolution, storage is becoming a necessity for organisations. Organisations should be thinking of how best to install the latest data storage devices around their premises because the demand for storage is on the increase.

“The demand for data is huge, which calls for increased need for storage of data and other essentials, and we have the latest storage devices to address these issues. We have our storage devices in USB, SD, Micro SD and Hard drive and these devices are readily available,” he added.

On the durability of SanDisk storage devices, he said “Information stored in our storage devices can remain there for several years without getting damaged before it can be retrieved at any point in time. For our Flash storage facilities, it could store information for a period of over 25 years; hence we give 25 years warranty for our storage facilities.”

Although storage security is a factor of management, usage and exposure to vulnerability, he said customers are assured that their data is safe if properly stored and managed in the storage facilities. According to him, Western Digital is the number one storage company globally that manages organisation’s storage using the USB devices.

“We are trying to penetrate the market through our distributors to gain significant share in the Nigerian technology market. Our decision to penetrate the Nigerian market was informed by our desire to transform data storage business in Nigeria and at the same time, grow our market share as quickly as possible.

We have commenced business through our distribution structure, which we have put in place and we hope to grow the market fast as technology evolves.

We are beginning with Lagos from where we will cover other parts of Nigeria.“So our product is best suitable for the Nigerian market, where mobile phone penetration growth rate is high. As people browse the internet with their mobile phones, they need storage facilities as backups and that is what we provide at Western Digital.

“We have two types of devices, the hard drive storage facilities and the flash storage facilities. With the Flash storage facilities, we begin with the small Universal Serial Bus (USB) and we can grow the capacity to as much as 200 Gigabyte and 256 Gigabyte and with the Micro SD, we start with 8 Gigabyte and can increase its capacity to as much as 400 Gigabyte. With our SD, we begin with 512 Gigabyte and grow its capacity to one terabyte.

Aziz noted that SanDisk solution addresses the need of systems integrators and value added service providers. “We have specific storage device for surveillance that does long hours recording and storage. Although digital archiving is about document storage in the digital format but what we are introducing is different from digital archiving. But if those involved in digital archiving are storing their products somewhere, then it should be in a storage device produced by Western Digital, even though our business model is different from document archiving. Any information that is data driven and created from laptops and mobile phones can be stored in any of our storage devices.“The demand for technology solutions is on the increase in Nigeria and this shows the growth rate of technology adoption and usage,” he stressed.
