Olorundare wants NSIG Class of 2023 to be ambassadors for change
The Acting President of the Internet Society Nigeria Chapter, Kunle Olorundare, has challenged the Nigerian School on Internet Governance (NSIG) class of 2023 to be good ambassadors for positive change in the global Internet governance landscape.
Olorundare an engineer, who is also the coordinator of the NSIG, stated this in a speech he delivered during the 4th edition of the NSIG.
According to him, the NSIG will continue to play a pivotal role in nurturing the next generation of Internet governance experts, who will contribute to shaping the narrative of the Internet’s future, particularly in the emerging metaverse. He believed Africa is going to benefit mostly from the future Internet – Metaverse, if we take the position now by contributing at this formative stage.
“As we progress on this remarkable journey, let us remember that our collective mission is to prepare each of you to become a good ambassador for positive change in the global Internet governance landscape. The challenges ahead are significant, but with your unwavering commitment and the support structure we provide, I have every confidence that the NSIG Class of 2023 will rise to the occasion and make substantial contributions to shaping the future of the Internet,” he said.
He posited that Nigeria will shortly produce great leaders who will not only contribute to the expansive world of Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) but will also actively contribute to the Internet Governance ecosystem.
This development, he noted, will come from the newly introduced ISOC Learn, an invaluable resource that will further enhance the knowledge and skills of NSIG Class of 2023 in the realm of Internet Governance.
Olorundare noted that the curated courses the students had taken during the virtual week, were carefully selected to form the NSIG Learn program, adding that the courses are some of the prerequisites to becoming an ICANN Fellow.
“You are one step closer to becoming an ICANN Fellow. I am confident that this week’s onsite class will be a valuable experience for you. You will have the opportunity to learn from some of the leading experts in Internet Governance, and you will have the chance to network with other fellows and professionals from all over the world,” he emphasised.
