PU Exchange, a Lagos-based digital trading platform, has officially launched the PUEX App on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, marking its transition from a WhatsApp-based trading service to a full-service consumer fintech platform.
The PUEX App enables users to sell gift cards for instant naira, convert cryptocurrencies to naira, purchase airtime and data, and pay utility bills through a single application. According to the company, the app recorded more than 1,000 downloads within its first 24 hours, reflecting strong early interest from Nigeria’s growing digital trading community.
The launch comes as Nigeria’s digital asset market continues to expand. The country’s gift card trading market was valued at $2.29 billion in 2025 and is projected to grow to $3.88 billion by 2030, driven by increasing demand from Nigerians who receive internationally issued gift cards from relatives abroad, international employers, and global freelance platforms that do not support direct naira payments.
PU Exchange began operations as a WhatsApp-based trading service, building a community of more than 7,000 active traders through personalised customer service and competitive exchange rates before transitioning to the PUEX App.
The company said the new mobile application enables users to complete transactions that previously required lengthy WhatsApp conversations in less than two minutes.
“We built our reputation on WhatsApp because that is where our customers were. But to serve them better—with faster rates, instant payments, real-time transaction tracking, and a seamless trading experience—we needed a dedicated app. That moment is now, and we are ready for what comes next,” said Prosper Mbakwe, Chief Executive Officer of PU Exchange.
The PUEX App supports a broad range of internationally issued gift cards, including Amazon, Apple iTunes, Google Play, Steam, Sephora, Visa and Walmart cards, issued in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and other major markets.
The platform also supports cryptocurrency transactions, allowing users to convert supported digital assets into naira quickly and securely.
