GOtv event organisers assure adequate security

FLYKITE Productions, promoters of GOtv Boxing Night, has assured fans coming for the third edition of the event, billed for July 26, of adequate protection.

Speaking with journalists in Lagos, the firm’s Managing Director, Jenkins Alumona said boxing fans had nothing to fear, as the organisers had made arrangements for security in and around the Indoor Sports Hall of the security will be provided National Stadium, Lagos, venue of the event.

According to him, KSquare Security was taking charge, describing the organisation as competent with vast experience in big events. “Fans are assured of their safety. KSquare Security, which has the requisite experience and has demonstrated such over the years, will ensure that there is nothing to fear,” he said.

GOtv Boxing Night, a six-bout professional boxing event sanctioned by the Nigerian Boxing Board of Control (NBB of C), is conceived to arrest the decline the sport is currently experiencing in Nigeria and aims at bringing continental and world title fights to the country in the near future.

The third edition, an improved package, will see the best boxer of the night walk away with a cash prize of N1 million.

The event is to feature fights in various weight categories, with the biggest being the 12-round National Light Middleweight contest between the reigning champion, Sule “Tyson” Olagbade and Abolaji “Afonja Warrior” Rasheed.

Another big one is a six-round international female bout between Nigeria’s Helen “Iron Lady” Johnson and Gifty “Tiger” Amanua Ankrah of Ghana.

The night will also witness an eight-round Light Welterweight challenge between Kazeem “Iberu” Ariyo and Olaide “Fijaborn” Fijabi.

In the Lightweight category, Prince Nurudeen Fatai would take on Chibuzor “T-Boy” Obi in eight rounds, while Sunday “Golden Child” Ajuwa is billed to fight Femi “Easywhite” Ajayi in an eight-round Cruiserweight bout.
