APGA National chairman, Umeh

FORMER national chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Victor Umeh, has presented his documents, including the poll results, to the Justice Nayai Aganaba-led Anambra State Elections Petitions Tribunal sitting in Awka.

The Anambra Central senatorial candidate is battling the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate and declared winner of the last general election, Senator Uche Ekwunife, for the mandate.

Meanwhile, the tribunal has adjourned till July 30, 2015 for the continuation of hearing in the matter brought by Dozie Nwankwo, also of APGA, and Dr. Okey Eze of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) challenging Eze’s declaration as winner of the March 28 election.

Before the adjournment, Nwankwo’s principal witness (PW 1), Samuel Oraegbunam, was cross-examined by counsels to the PDP and Eze respectively.

He disclosed that he monitored and observed the proceedings of the election in spite of the restriction of movement on that day because he had the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) permit to move round in performing his duty as constituency collation officer.

He denied claims that he relied on hearsay for his submissions, stating that his position is based on documents given him by other agents. He alleged that the forgery to manipulate the process was done at the ward and council levels by agents of the first and second respondents (Eze and PDP).

According to him, if the ballot were properly counted, it would reflect the true votes cast and give Nwankwo the victory. On the alterations on one of the result sheets, however, he said there was a mathematical error but that the agents of APGA, PDP and the All Progressives Congress (APC) signed the corrected version.
