Da-emperor-1Fast rising artiste Fasasi Ganiyu Mobolaji, otherwise called Da Emperor in the showbiz industry, is one chap that knows his onion, as far as the game of rap music is concerned. Since he stepped into the music scene, the former banker has remained steadfast in his quest for fame and fortune.

Just recently, he teamed up with the ‘musical taliban’ Oritse Femi, on a brand new single titled Firewood. Produced by Justeebeats and mastered by Indomix, the track is a feel-good up-tempo dance track that blends the vocal dexterity of Oritshe Femi, with the street inspired Pidgin English and Yoruba rhymes of Da Emperor.

Da Emperor, who has featured in a good number of tracks alongside established and upcoming acts, has never hidden his plans to change the rap game in Nigeria with his rhythmic punch lines. From his consistency, it won’t take long before the he hits the jackpot.

Though playing secular music today, Da Emperor’s first contact with music was in his church choir, which he joined at a very tender age.

“I could remember being a choir member to being the choir master at a tender age. Then years passed by, and around 2008, I started writing lyrics of my own. By 2010/2011, I hit the studio and did two songs at a go. Those two songs were Am A Rapper and Facebook Prediction featuring Don D King. During this same time, Don D King also featured me on a hit song we never got to release titled Love Advice,” he recalled.

Last year, Da Emperor premiered the video of his hit single, Para Mode, at the Silverbird Cinemas, Ikeja, Lagos.

“I decided to do something no indigenous rapper has done, I performed alongside a live band. These two actions were exceptional, and I can categorically say I’m the first indigenous rapper to make those moves. It’s all part of the plan in taking indigenous rap music international,” he said.

Right now, topmost in his agenda is to drop his much-anticipated album.

“I’ve got loads of new songs expressing my versatility and creativity in each of these masterpieces. I’ve got a new song, I Am A Sinner; I dropped the snippet recently after I released Firewood. I’ve also got another masterpiece in the mix process with Indomix; it’s titled Shilekun. And there are still many other songs. So once the spirit says go, we will release them.”
