Poverty and lack will capture a person and refuse to let him go until he fights and wins the battle against sin, their master, which invites afflictions and attacks into man’s life. Job and Joseph’s victory was founded on three main pillars (i) they rose above their situations and did not allow their defeat to defeat them, (ii) they stepped on their defeat, and (iii) they held on to God.
1 Kings 20:23 states, “Then the servants of the king of Syria said to him, ‘Their gods are the gods of the hills. Therefore they were stronger than we; but if we fight against them in the plain, surely we will be stronger than they.”

The devil chooses the best time to attack the children of God. Satan and his agents want you to get to a point, where you see your situation as hopeless and you lose confidence in yourself and in the God that you serve. Once they have succeeded in getting you to this point, you are in the valley and it is at this time that they will attack you. When you are on the mountaintop and you still have confidence in God, they will find it difficult to get to you. But once you are in the valley position, when you are weak, tired and dejected, they will be able to wage battle against you effectively.

This is Satan’s strategy; you must, therefore, stop listening to what the devil has to say about your situation and to what those around you have to say. Start rejecting the enemy’s words and focus instead on what the Lord is saying about your situation. Jeremiah 29:11 states, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.”

God is bigger and stronger than what anyone may be saying about your life. The Lord says that He will deliver your enemies into your hands and lack and infirmity shall bow down and shall no longer operate in your life. Deuteronomy 28:1-2 states, “Now it shall come to pass, if you diligently obey the voice of the Lord your God, to observe carefully all His commandments, which I command you today, that the Lord your God will set you high above all nations of the earth. And all these blessing shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the Lord your God.” We should diligently obey the voice of God and shake the words of the enemy out of our lives. The enemy has a way of using words to torment us, but when they come we should shake them off and step on them; they must be under us and not above us.

Joseph and Job stepped on the words of defeat, remained focused on God and continued to walk in holiness and righteousness. If you can do the same, then all the problems you are facing will come to an end. When you walk in holiness and righteousness, the blessings will pursue you instead of you running after them. Even though you may be going through difficult times, for as long as you continue to walk in total holiness, following the path of truth and righteousness, then, as is stated in Deuteronomy 28:13, “And the Lord will make you the head and not the tail; you shall be above only and not beneath, if you heed the commandments of the Lord your God, which I command you today and are careful to observe them.”

If God can do it for Joseph and Job, then He can certainly do it for us.
