MFM FC yesterday lost their bid for a first-ever Federation Cup title when they were beaten 1-0 by Katsina United. The defeat means they are the latest Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) side to exit the Federation Cup in the round of 32.

Kano Pillars and Niger Tornadoes both failed to make it to the round of 16 on Wednesday after defeats against Prime FC of Oshogbo and Crown FC of Ogbomosho.

Ibrahim Suleiman scored the winning goal  for Katsina United in the 54th minute of the encounter on a day holders, Akwa United, also advanced into the next round courtesy of a 1-0 win against Kwara United.

Cyril Olisema scored in the 17th minute to give the Promise Keepers the win.

They will play Sunshine Stars in the next round in Oleh.

Enugu Rangers are also through to the round of 16 after edging out another National League side, ABS FC of Ilorin, in Bauchi.

All three Delta State teams are through to the next round, as J. Atete FC beat Top World 1-0 yesterday, a day after both Warri Wolves and Delta Queens won in their respective games.

Meanwhile, Abia Angels head coach Ann Agumanu-Chiejine, has expressed satisfaction with her side’s hard-fought victory against Confluence Queens.

The Nigeria Women Premier League (NWPL) newcomers came from behind to beat their more experienced and matured opponents 2-1 in yesterday’s Federation Cup round of 16 clash at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu.
