Group commends Soludo over visit to Kanu

A group, Anambra Civil Society Network (ACSONET), has commended the state governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, for visiting the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, in the Department of State Security custody.

The Chairman, ASCONET, Prince Chris Azor, described the visit as part of peacebuilding and engagement strategies put in place by Soludo in his attempt to find a lasting solution to insecurity in the South East.

Azor, who said that ASCONET is a platform for citizens and non-state actors, added that the non-kinetic approach by the governor is quite commendable and forward-looking.

In a statement yesterday, Azor, who also doubles as the Coordinator and Co-Chair, Open Government Partnership (OGP), said: “We, the citizens, have always advocated dialogue and peace-building mechanisms as a sustainable strategy to solving the problem of insecurity in the South East, and, indeed, Nigeria.

“It’s, therefore, expected that this approach by the governor will go a long way in changing the narrative, and eliciting the needed support and cooperation of those on the other side, thereby, restoring peace and sustainable development.”

According to Soludo, the IPOB leader expressed sadness over what he described as ‘sacrilegious killings of innocent persons, kidnappings and all forms of criminalities, including the brutal enforcement of the senseless ‘sit-at-home,’ perpetuated by sundry groups claiming to be acting for or on behalf of IPOB.

IN ANOTHER development, the South East region of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) has, again, appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to reconsider his stance on the incarceration of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, leader of IPOB.

This is following the Buhari-led administration’s insistence that it would allow the courts to decide Kanu’s fate.

But speaking during a prayer rally in Enugu, the National Vice Chairman, South East, of the Christian body, Bishop Maxwell Korie, said the stance of the Federal Government was not in anyone’s interest.

The cleric, who expressed worry over the level of insecurity in the zone, said dialogue remained the panacea for the problems.
