Worried by the raging bombardment in Gaza and the resultant killings of innocent Palestinians by Israeli forces, the Kano State governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has advocated an emerging global consensus to halt the conflict.
Although, the Nigerian government has not taken a definite stand in favour of any of the warring party, the state government expressed optimism the global intervention to resolve the crisis will be in favour of Palestine.
Governor Yusuf made the remarks on Thursday when he received the Palestine Ambassador to Nigeria, Abdallah Abu Shawish at the Government House, Kano.
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, the governor said with the level of increasing awareness on the Israeli occupation of Palestine, it is high time the global community woke against the humanitarian crisis raging in the Middle East.
According to the governor, with the huge loss of lives and property, the world community must rise against the inhumane treatment being meted out to Palestine by Israel in an attempt to occupy the Palestinian land.
Earlier, the Palestinian envoy to Nigeria, Shawish, accused Israel of forceful attempt to eject Palestine from their land. Shawish insisted that contrary to Israeli’s claim, the war was never against the Hamas forces but rather against all Palestinians.
The Palestinian ambassador emphasised that citizens of his country are not terrorists as painted in the global media but rather muzzling efforts to defend themselves against Israel’s occupation of their land. He said Palestine will continue to resist injustice and maltreatment by Israeli forces.
A statement by Aliyu Yusuf, director public enlightenment, Government House, quoted the Executive Secretary of Islamic Forum of Nigeria, Prof. Salisu Shéhu, as saying the Ambassador was in Kano to attend a special lecture on Palestine-Israel conflict organised by the forum.
