In a bid to ensure the wellbeing of the citizenry, the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Police Affairs, Mr Makki Yalleman has pledged that he would ensure adequate budgetary provision for the Nigeria police force.
Speaking while inaugurating the committee at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja, he charged his colleagues to work hard to address the spate of insecurity in the country.
The Jigawa born lawmaker remarked that it is unfortunate that several part of the country is still grappling with the spate of kidnapping, armed robbery and banditry.
He said as lawmakers entrusted with the responsibility of ensuring good governance in the polity, it was incumbent on them to protect lives and property, and building confidence in our security institutions.
Yalleman said that in the coming months and years, the work of the committee will touch on many sensitive matters saying they can deliver significant results for the betterment of Nigerians.
He urged the members to focus on shared goals rather than narrow interests and to uphold the highest standards of conduct, and to place the needs of citizens above personal interest.
“Let me remind you that the leadership of the committee will dwell more on your wealth of experience, expertise, hardwork and dedication in order to discharge its functions.
“We are to ensure adequate funding for agencies under our jurisdction, provide useful legislation, carrying out performance audit and other allied oversight functions geared towards efficient service delivery and repositioning the Nations internal security arthetecture.
“Stewardship of our national security portfolio is an immense responsibility that requires diligence, vision and sacrifice,” he said.
