
The Chairman, Police Service Commission (PSC), Dr. Solomon Arase, has declared that under his watch, admission into the Nigerian Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State, would be strictly based on merit and devoid of any political interest or influence.
Besides, the former Inspector General of Police affirmed that attempt by any element to scam unsuspecting candidate with the promise of securing admission through cyber fraud will be detected and punished in line with the extant laws.
Dr. Arase made the commitment on Tuesday at the Nigerian Police Academy, Kano, while inspecting the ongoing screen exercise of the shortlisted candidates for the 35th regular course admission.
While responding on the negative impression of the public essentially on the credibility of admission into the premier police academy, Chairman of the Police Service Commission disclosed that posited that with the process and mechanism put in place, no candidate can be admitted below merit.
Though, the former IGP did not denied whether or not admission slots were being shared to the politicians, he however insisted that such abysmal will not rear its ugly hair under his watch.
Dr. Arase said that the police are learning from previous experiences as fallible element, who is prompt to making mistakes. He however pledged that the commission will do everything humanly possible to make sure the on going process is credible.
“I can assure you that the slot is not being shared to any politician. I have had 42 years of public service career and one thing I can put on the table is my reputation. I will not allow that to happen. Once the exercise is completed we will put it on the public space for everybody to see.
“People can allude to so many things but I can assure you from what we have seen, this one is going to be merit based and the credibility cannot be impeached. It is done in a very transparent pattern and this is really what the government want us to do.
“And that is why when we were setting up the recruitment board, we brought everybody on board, the police, Federal character commission, police service commission and ministry of Police affairs as well as the academia are all involved. So under this circumstance, it is very difficult for you to influence the process.”
On the cybercrimes, Dr. Arase stressed that the Police now has a cybercrimes department which is working round the clock to ensure that why such crime is committed, the person is detected and arrested to face the wrath of the law.
He however applauded the Commandant of the academy and the academic staff for organizing a seamless and hitch free processes that accommodated the candidates. Over 1,500 candidates shortlisted are invited to undergo credentials, physical feature screening, Computer Based Test, Medical test and fitness route.
Candidate that successfully scale through the preliminary rudimental would subsequently face the selection board team for final screening. 20 qualified candidates from each state of the Federation are expected to be offered admission into the academy at the end of the screening.
