Don’t compromise on excellence, VC tells students
Vice-chancellor, Igbinedion University Okada (IUO), Prof. Lawrence Ezemonye, on Monday charged the fresh students of the institution for the 2024/2025 academic session to embrace excellence and never compromise excellence in their academic sojourn in the university.
Ezemonye gave the admonition to students admitted to the university at the orientation programme organised by the institution in Okada, Edo State.
He said that the students were all joining at a time the university was granted full accreditations, at the National Universities Commission (NUC) and professional categories.
“The composition of the family is distinct and distinguished. As you have seen, our Orientation Programme is a well-structured platform for introductory induction into the Principle and Practice of IUO,” he said.
“It is a well-structured welcome package for all fresh students, designed to familiarize you with the expectations of the university as well as the “nuts and bolts” of the academic programme ahead of you.”
While congratulating the fresh students for choosing IUO, the Vice Chancellor said the Igbinedion varsity is a multi-disciplinary, inclusive, cosmopolitan, and globally competitive university.

“Be rest assured that you are in for a formidable learning experience predicated on digital literacy, creativity, and innovation. Here, you will find a dynamic youth population who are future world changers and enduring entrepreneurs.
“As you join the IUO family, I want you to reflect and pay special attention on how your time on campus will be utilized, I urge you to devote your talents and treasures only to ideas that contribute to the service of God and Humanity.
“You may have been entangled with thoughts of navigating a new terrain with old compasses. I want to remind you that your past does not define your future, New skills, new tools will be acquired, suitable for perfect birthing of the ship at the harbour.
“Here in IUO, you will author your own storyline. In this way, you will also sharpen IUO history in the long run, along our changing narrative. In your interactions with members of the IUO family, I expect you to engage only in fruitful conversations. Let civility and dignity guide your dialogues and interrogations in our communities, treating each other with mutual respect.”
