Police arrest father over alleged murder of three-day-old son in Adamawa

The suspect, Aliyu Yaro

The Adamawa State Police Command has apprehended a 19-year-old man, Aliyu Yaro, from Kwacham ward in Mubi North Local Council, for allegedly murdering his three-day-old son.

The arrest came after a report by the suspect’s girlfriend, Safiya, who is also the mother of the deceased child. According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, Yaro confessed during interrogation to killing the newborn and led law enforcement officers to the burial site, where the baby’s remains were subsequently exhumed.

The police command stated: “Yaro explained that after impregnating Safiya, she repeatedly urged him to take responsibility for the baby after its birth. “He claimed that on the night of the incident, he visited Safiya, sent her on an errand to fetch water, and absconded with the infant. Tragically, he admitted to burying the child’s body that same evening in the Girpata area of Mubi.”

State Commissioner of Police Morris Dankombo described the incident as disturbing and has directed that the case be transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for a comprehensive investigation and diligent prosecution.
